Crestron’s Little Wireless Photosensor Saves Energy in Home Automation Environment

Crestron Electronics is shipping its new GLS-LDL-EX-BATT dual-loop photosensor, a wireless device that utilizes Crestron’s ZigBee-based Infinet EX protocol for communicating with a home automation system.

When integrated with lighting (or motorized shades and other smart devices), the photocell can help residential and commercial property owners cut their electrical consumption in new and retrofit environments.

The new device features two internal photocells—-one for open-loop daylight sensing and another for closed-loop ambient light sensing.

The product “monitors natural daylight from windows and signals the lighting control system to raise or lower the lights according to natural light fluctuations, reducing energy usage while maintaining a consistent light level for a more efficient and comfortable work or living space,” according to the manufacturer.

The battery-powered photosensor can be placed by a variety of locations. Dealers can mount the product to drywall with an anchor and screw in residential settings, and in commercial environments where there could be a drop ceiling or ceiling fixtures, dealers can use magnetic strips to mount the photosensor.  The company also points out the GLS-LDL-EX-BATT
communicates wirelessly with a Crestron control system through its infiNET EX technologies.
