Reported by gongkong.ofweek.com: Japanese robot and motion control manufacturer Yaskawa have cooperated with Chinese home appliances giant Midea to establish two joint ventures on robot production. The two sides intend to invest 400 million yuan (about 63 million dollar) to manufacture industrial robot in one company and service robot in the other one. Yaskawa Electric Corporation will hole most of the shares (51%) in industrial robot business and Midea will hold most of the shares (60.1%) in service robot business. Midea plans to use the robot for its own home appliance production and sell a part of them overseas.

Due to the improvement of wage level and the aggravation of population aging, Chinese enterprises have to bring in robot to improve productivity. The sales volume of robot in 2014 in China is 56 thousand which makes China the largest market for industrial robot. As predicted by IFR (International Federation of Robotics), China will have the largest robot installation base in the world in 2017 and the number of robot used by enterprise will reach up to 428 thousand, twice of the current amount.

Except for household appliances, Midea is the largest HVAC system manufacturer in China. It is established in 1968 with 120 thousand employees. Its global business volume is 23 billion US dollar in 2014. After adoption of robot, the employees will be reduced to 100 thousand but the business volume will increase to 32 billion dollar. Taking its air conditioning business as an example, Midea had invested 160 million dollar on automatic production from 2012 to 2014, and it is planed to expand to over 800 million dollar in the future five years. Ten years ago, there are 2,800 workers in household central air conditioning workshop; the number will be reduced to 900 in the end of 2015 and 50 in the next three years. "On one hand, there will be massive job cuts," said vice-president of Midea central air conditioning production business, "On the other hand, we need technical personnel to operate robot, so it has requirements on the education background."

Yaskawa has established two robot production plants in China, who plans to double the robot production in China, reaching 600 per month (about a quarter of its production in Japan). Globally, the sales volume of robot is 38% of the total 810 million dollar in the first season in 2015, an increase compared to 34% of last year. The biggest business is still motion control, with 48% of the sales volume in the first season in both 2014 and 2015.
