The
Canon EOS Rebel T6i and T6s are the company’s latest somewhat
entry-level cameras that was announced earlier this year and released
last month. However as it turns out that there might be some issues with
the camera’s sensors so if you have your eye on either camera, perhaps
you might want to hold off on purchasing it for now, at least until
Canon fixes it.
According to a report by
LensRentals, they found that 6 out of the 20 models they’ve received
have some issue with the sensor. Breaking it down, it’s 4 T6s models and
2 T6i models, which seems to indicate that the T6s might be the more
problematic of the two, although admittedly the sample size is a bit too
small to be conclusive.
That being said, the
issue is apparently a defect within the layers of glass that are layered
on top of the sensor. It was initially believed to be a layer of dust
of upon closer inspection it seems to be a defect of sorts. In order to
truly see how the defect affects photos, LensRental claims that it is
more visible when taken at apertures such as f/11 to f/16 against a
white background or a clear sky.
Those who shoot
with wider apertures against other background types will most probably
not be able to notice said defects. According to LensRental, Canon is
apparently aware of the issue and are aggressively looking into it. It
might not necessarily be serious enough for a recall, but if you have a
T6s or T6i, perhaps this is something you’ll want to check out and send
your camera in for a fix/replacement if you have a defective model.
