【Industrial Robot-Industrial Robot manufacturers】MHI will use artificial intelligence robot to manufacture aircrafts

(OFweek) – The Japanese enterprise Mitsubishi Heavy Industries will add a new automation production line to make the fuselage of new-generation large-sized Boeing 777X. The most advanced industrial robots and artificial intelligence will be largely applied to the new production line to cut down about 15% of cost based on the requirement of Boeing and at the same time to achieve high quality. A total of 25-30 billion yen is expected to be invested in the project.
The new production line will be set up in the existing factories in which Mitsubishi manufactures the fuselage of the aircrafts. The rear fuselage and doors of the 777X aircraft which is projected to be launched at the market will be produced there. And the products will be put into production in 2017-2018.
The robots and automation equipment will be used in fuselage steel plate punching, riveting and other processes that require manual work. The company will partner with FANUC which has rich experience in CNC machine for robotic process technology and it will also take advantage of artificial intelligence to calculate the best condition for accurate and high-speed process for punching.
Mitsubishi will install sensors in robots and equipment to collect operation data, analyze the failure possibility of the control equipment at advanced and predict the time for failure to avoid the production line knockout caused by part and components replacement.
